Overtime, a layer of dead grass will build up between the grass blades and root system. This layer is called “Thatch”. Thatch can prevent water and beneficial nutrients from reaching the grass roots and can also provide a hiding place for Insects. Power Raking & De-Thatching are basically the same but can be done with different machinery. During the process, excessive thatch layers are brought up to the surface by the Power Rake machine. The thatch will then be raked up and/or blown to remove it away from the lawn. We find that the Power Raking Machine not only de-thatches a lawn but it also scratches the surface of the soil to let grass breath and prepares it to thrive. We will monitor the thatch layer and recommend the service as needed.
